Do you remember when wooly mammoths roamed North America? Me neither. None of us were alive when they died out. They were very large land mammals and when the climate changed and the food got scarce, they succumbed to their darkest destiny – extinction.

This last week, images of another emaciated polar bear made the social media rounds. Emaciated polar bears are becoming the rule, not the exception. Alarm bells should be erupting across the land as a wake-up call for humanity. Our fossil record shows, with a frightening certainty, that large land animals tend to go first when there is a sudden climate shift.
