Current Issues in Energy

Much of our economy’s renewable energy resources are needlessly wasted everyday. The EPA estimates that over 110 million cubic feet of landfill gas is simply flared off every day, representing over $800 million to $1 Billion worth of energy that could be going to power our businesses, light our city streets and charge electric cars. Were this renewable energy source to be fully harvested, the renewables sector would create over 14,000 new living wage jobs. This valuable resource is being squandered, opportunities are being lost and we’re continuing our toxic dependency on fossil fuels because the “sour gas” generators in the market are simply too expensive to install and maintain.

Less than 10% of America’s energy needs is supplied by all renewable energy sources combined. A full 24% could be met by using the renewable fuel that we’re wasting: methane gas captured and flared at municipal landfills and waste water treatment plants.

While solar and wind can augment a community’s power needs, they cannot provide baseload power due to the ever-changing weather. This puts stress on our aging infrastructure which can only partially be managed by drawing upon large battery packs or fast-start diesel peaker plants during spikes in demand.

Where We Come In

Volta PowerGen’s solutions are scalable in 100kW increments, are less than half the cost to install and maintain per MW/hr compared to 20th century biogas energy gensets, and can operate on a much lower concentration of methane thanks in part to their higher efficiency. Volta PowerGen enables small communities to add biogas to their renewable energy portfolio without relying on outside subsidies, while reducing their carbon footprint and creating more jobs in this growing sector.
